Presentation of Beyond #2 – Values and Symptoms

Reading Session

Feast in a War Zone. A Palestinian Diary

“Values and Symptoms” is the second volume of Beyond, the bookazine dedicated to urban fiction and experimental forms of architectural writing, in which an extended network of young and upcoming European architectural writers are given the freedom to survey the outline of themes and things to come.
The second issue of Beyond arrives when recession hits at our door and architects and urbanists have to devise fresh approaches to recurrent problems. The stories included in this volume not only address current symptoms such as fear and paranoia, but offer unexpected visions on how to deal with old urban issues such as war, gentrification, and capitalistic city growth.
Beyond the academic circle and the everlasting technovisions of doom, “Values and Symptoms” proposes a handful of everyday dystopic tales that, while bringing outstanding thinking to a wider audience, come near to fiction’s ability to prompt a deeper reflection on themes and values that should concern us all - as it happens when Lieven de Cauter proposes that heterotopia may be seen as an answer to Palestine's startling urbanism in his previously unpublished diary "Feast in a Warzone"...
